BENGALURU: More information has reached police in the IED blast which took place inside the famous Rameswaram café in Bengaluru. It is suspected that a timer was used to control the explosive device, as the officials found the remains of a timer near the site of the explosion. A 46-year-old woman who suffered serious injuries in the blast will possibly lose her hearing ability.
BJP state president Vijayendra strongly criticized the congress government's lackadaisical approach in ramping up security measures as he also accused the Siddaramaiah government of abetting terrorism.
Meanwhile, DK Shivakumar thwarted all attempts to politicise the incident. Shivakumar also reminded the BJP that the cooker explosion in Mangalore in 2022 happened while the BJP was in power in Karnataka. On the other hand, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah called a meeting of the top officials of the Home Department at 1 pm on Saturday.
The crime branch team is currently interrogating one person who was taken into custody following the incident. Ten people were injured in the blast. A case has been registered under the UAPA Act. The explosion occurred at 12:56 pm yesterday at the famous Rameswaram Cafe in Brookfield.
The explosion took place at the wash area of the café during peak hours. Three hotel employees, including two women, and diners were injured in the blast. The police earlier presumed the blast to be a result of a cooking cylinder explosion. However, nails, nuts and bolts were found at the site of the blast which forced forensic and bomb squads to conduct a detailed inspection. When the CCTV of the hotel was checked, it was found that around 11:45 am, an unknown person brought a bag to the hotel and left it abandoned there. After about an hour, the explosion takes place.
