MALAPPURAM: One more person who was under treatment for viral hepatitis has passed. The deceased was a 32-year-old resident of Chembankolly in Edakkara Panchayat, Malappuram. With this, the number of deaths due to viral hepatitis in Malappuram district has increased to three in a month. Malappuram DMO R Renu said that Pothukal in Malappuram district is the epicentre of the disease. The operation of cool bars and hotels has been restricted for three weeks in Pothukal and Edakkara panchayats. The health department also said to immediately consult a doctor if symptoms are noticed. It is also advised to be careful about drinking water.
Within two months, 152 people were infected. Viral hepatitis is a disease caused by microorganisms belonging to a group of viruses. Common symptoms include fever, loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, yellow eyes, and yellow urine. If the treatment is not received on time, the life of the patient could be at risk.
Only boiled water should be drunk. It is recommended to cool the water for at least three minutes after boiling. If symptoms are present, avoid contact with others for at least three weeks and take rest.
