THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Six Dot Design, a startup founded by Abhijith (27), Harikrishna (26) and Akhilesh (27), natives of Palakkad has unveiled a groundbreaking solution for visually impaired students: the Louis Tab. Developed in 2019 out of a heartfelt desire to aid a blind friend struggling with learning, this innovative tablet promises to revolutionize education for the visually impaired.

Designed with a sleek metal coating and equipped with a Braille interface, the Louis Tab allows users to effortlessly access digital content. With just the push of a button, PDF lesson notes can be converted into Braille, enabling students to read and study tactilely. The tablet also features a built-in Braille keyboard for easy typing and messaging functionality, simplifying communication with teachers.

One of the key highlights of the Louis Tab is its support for both English and Malayalam Braille, offering a wide range of literary options for users. Additionally, the tablet is equipped with AI capabilities with plans for future development to enhance its functionality further.

The journey of Six Dot Design took a significant turn when Akhilesh pursued his MS in Electrical Engineering from IIT Madras. Inspired by their visually impaired friend's challenges and armed with a grant of 5 lakhs from the Centre's Nidhi Prayas scheme, the team embarked on their mission to create a transformative solution.

Their efforts have not gone unnoticed, as Six Dot Design recently secured a coveted spot in the top 10 startups selected by IIM Calcutta. With its headquarters in Chennai and already making waves in blind schools, the Louis Tab is poised to make a significant impact on the education sector.
