THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: One of the largest employers in the state, KSEB, with strict restrictions on recruitment. Appointments are not made in the posts of Assistant Engineer, Cashier and Meter Reader. The appointment of meter reader and cashier posts has been reduced considering the arrival of smart meters.
Advice memos have been given to 125 people on the post of sub-engineer last month. However, they are reluctant to report the vacancies for the post of Assistant Engineer to the PSC. Six vacancies have been reported which are the vacancies of those who have not accepted the job despite being given an advice memo from the previous list. It is indicated that there are currently 180 vacancies. KSEB is not ready to announce the vacancies even after requests from PSC.
The report should take into account the current vacancy and the vacancy that may arise in the next three years. A PSC exam was conducted for the post of Assistant Engineer in June last year. A short list of just 785 people, including the main list, supplementary list and differently-abled list, was published this February. Earlier shortlists included 2000 people. According to the PSC, the list had to be shortened due to non-reporting of vacancies. 23,855 candidates had applied and around 18000 appeared for the exam. Now applications will be invited for this post only in 2027. By then, many people will reach the age limit.
The Regulatory Commission wants to reduce the number of employees. KSEB has been trying to do this for the last two years.
