The statement given to the police was that the accused took the sleeping child around 12 midnight and covered the child's mouth. He abandoned the child thinking that she is dead due to him covering the mouth. The presence of the accused at the place at the said time corroborates this. But the police could not find the child even after searching the area for a whole day. The child was found during the inspection conducted by Mannanthala police at 7 pm. In that case the child was abandoned most of the time. It is unclear why the child could not be found around this time.
