THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Construction of a massive housing board complex near Marine Drive in Ernakulam, costing Rs 2300 crore is set to commence in June. This marks the largest government-controlled building project in the state. The plan involves selling residential flats and renting out rooms in the commercial complex.
The project is a collaboration with the National Buildings Construction Corporation (NBCC), a central public sector organization. NBCC will cover the construction cost and recoup it through the sale of rooms and houses. The Housing Board will receive a larger share of the profits, to be determined through discussions, aiming to secure its financial status.
Spanning 17.9 acres near Mangalavanam and the High Court building, the complex will include a commercial complex, residential complex and nature-friendly parking lot. The design, presented by NBCC is under review by Revenue Minister K Rajan and Chief Secretary Dr V Venu. Amendments will be made and the new model will be conveyed to the Chief Minister for approval.
The goal is to complete the 30-32 storey building within the current government's tenure. The complex will cover a total area of 44.41 lakh sq.ft. with 31.66 lakh sq.ft. designated for residential use, 2.67 lakh sq.ft. for commercial purposes, and 10.07 lakh sq.ft. for parking. Epected income from the project is estimated at Rs 3650 crores.
