PATHANAMTHITTA: In Pathanamthitta constituency, political dynamics are shifting ahead of the upcoming elections. Traditionally a stronghold of the UDF, recent trends indicate a surge towards the left, with all seven constituencies currently held by the LDF.

Since its formation in 2009, Pathanamthitta has seen Congress's Anto Antony elected to Parliament three consecutive times. His candidacy is anticipated once again, pending official confirmation from the UDF.

Dr. Thomas Isaac, a CPM central committee member, represents the LDF in the forthcoming elections. Amidst an extensive campaign, including mural paintings and widespread poster displays, Isaac aims to strengthen his foothold in the constituency.

Meanwhile, the NDA, led by BJP's national secretary Anil Antony, has also initiated its campaign efforts. Seeking blessings from key figures like PC George, the NDA hopes to address concerns and win over voters.

Concerns loom over the UDF as their majority has steadily declined in each election since 2009. The recent decrease in votes and the narrowing gap between the first and second runners-up pose challenges for the party. Allegations suggest that NDA's focus on the Sabarimala issue in the previous election diverted votes from both the UDF and the NDA.

CPM endeavors to strengthen its support base beyond traditional boundaries through public relations initiatives and engagement with expatriates. Social media plays a pivotal role in attracting youth and expanding voter mobilization efforts.

BJP faces internal turmoil, with the expulsion of a district president causing disruptions. However, with the entry of Anil Antony, the party aims to mitigate controversies and bolster its electoral prospects.

With the stage set for a competitive triangular contest, the NDA pins its hopes on surpassing the 3 lakh vote mark achieved by its candidate in the last election. Victory for any party hinges on strategic campaigning and mobilizing support across diverse demographics.
