IDUKKI: The police recovered the hammer which was used used to kill Vijayan in the Kattappana double murder case. The crucial evidence was obtained while collecting evidence with the main accused, Nithish, in the rented house at Kakkattukada of Kanchiyar panchayat in Kattappana. The accused told police that Vijayan was bludgeoned to death with the hammer and then buried his body inside the house.

The information of the double murder surfaced when Nithish alias Rajesh (31) of Kanchiyar Puthenpurackal and Vishnu of Kakkattukada Nellanikkal were arrested in a theft case. Vishnu's father Vijayan and his newborn niece were killed and buried on two occasions. Nithish confessed to the crime during a detailed interrogation led by district police chief Vishnu Pradeep after taken into custody yesterday. Vishnu’s four-day-old baby niece was killed and buried in Kattappana in the house where they lived earlier in 2016. Vijayan was killed nine months ago and buried inside their house in Kakkattukada.

The police arrested Vishnu Vijayan and Nithish Rajan in a theft case on March 2. When the police reached Vishnu's house for inspection, they got suspicious on the abnormality over the speech of his mother and sister and a detailed probe reached to the double murder case.

Taking advantage of the superstitions of Vijayan, who was murdered, and his family members, Nithish, the main accused in the Kattappana double murder case, entered the house and won their trust. The family, who believed his words completely, became his puppets. The police hint that no one in the family was ready to speak even after the two including a newborn were brutally murdered. Nithish's knowledge about pujas and other things was the reason for their trust in him. A couple of things happened as what he said and their belief doubled. This is the reason why Vijayan conspired to kill Nithish' child with his daughter.
