NEW DELHI: Students who protested against the Citizenship Amendment Act at Delhi University were arrested. It is reported that around 30 students have been arrested by the police. Students of SIO, MSF and AISO student organizations protested. It is reported that the police reached the campus and detained the protesting students.

Students from these organizations informed that they have decided to intensify their protest against CAA in the coming days. Students from Delhi University had participated in the anti-CAA protest in 2018 too. Arrests and clashes took place inside the campus that day as well.

The central government made the CAA effective yesterday. The BJP is hoping that the Citizenship Act along with the Ayodhya Ram Temple will help to convert Hindutva polarization into votes. In the notification issued by the central government yesterday, it is mentioned that the web portal containing the eligibility criteria for registering the citizenship has also come into existence. The web portal is to apply for citizenship without the intervention of state governments.
