AROOR: In a tragic incident, one person died after a lorry ferrying watermelons crashed into the barricade erected as part of the construction of the elevated highway, near Chandiroor Senior Secondary School. Ismail (44) a native of Pattambi, who was the lorry driver is the deceased. Ummer (48), who was accompanying Ismail suffered serious injuries. He is undergoing treatment at Thuravoor Taluk Hospital. The accident happened at 4 am on Tuesday. The lorry ferrying watermelons from Palakkad was heading towards Kollam when the disastrous incident happened.

After the crash, the lorry turtled on the road and overturned leaving the watermelon to roll across the road. The fire force had to rush from Aroor to break open the lorry, to help the two people stuck inside the cabin of the vehicle. Despite the efforts, the driver couldn’t be saved. Ismail leaves behind his wife Seenath can children Muhammad Riaz and Muhammad Fazil.
