THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Keeping in mind the summer season, the Food Safety Department has started inspections at juice shops and places where bottled water is sold. Inspections in the districts are conducted by squads of Food Safety Assistant Commissioners. All shops, from small roadside shops, will be checked.

The most dangerous thing in summer is the ice used in the juice. Ice produced from contaminated water can cause many diseases. Therefore, ice should only be made with pure water. Those who drink juice from shops and roadside stalls should ensure that the ice is made from fresh water. Bottled water buyers and suppliers should ensure ISI seal on bottled water.

Do not use drinking water if the seal on the lid is broken. Plastic bottles filled with drinking water and other soft drinks should not be hung in shops exposed to sunlight and distributed from vehicles exposed to sunlight. The Food Safety Department has also warned that strict action will be taken under the Food Safety Act if unauthorized and fake bottled water is sold.
