NEW DELHI: A driver based in Nagpur showed unmatched valour as he guided a bus filled with passengers to safety despite being shot by dacoits. It was driver Gomdev Kavde who saved 35 passengers by evading dacoits and driving the vehicle to a nearby police station even after a bullet pierced through his palm.
The incident took place on the highway between Amaravati and Nagpur on Sunday night. The police have registered a case against four unidentified people in the attack.
Armed robbers attacked the bus that was ferrying 35 pilgrims from Baldana to Nagpur. The dacoits who were travelling in a car demanded the bus to be stopped but the driver relented. This irked the culprits to fire at the bus and one bullet pierced Kavde's palm. Not ready to succumb to the pain, Kavde showed unparalleled heroism and thwarted the attack and sped away from the sight ensuring safety for all the pilgrims.
Kavde did not take his hands off the steering wheel until he reached the police station. Three passengers on the bus were injured. and are undergoing treatment in Tivsa. Kavde told the police that the robbery gang arrived in a Bolero SUV with Uttar Pradesh registration number.
