PALAKKAD: An accused was found hanging inside the lockup of an excise office on Thursday. Shojo John (55), a native of Idukki and a driver, was found dead at around 7 am today. Last evening, Shojo was arrested by Excise for possession of hashish oil.
And now alleging conspiracy in the death, Shojo’s wife Jyothi claimed that her husband would never commit suicide.
According to Jyothi:
He came to the house at 5 pm on Wednesday. After that four other people followed him and took him away to talk. They talked about a blue bag. Later all four of the people rummaged the house but got nothing. Later they found an intoxicating medicine in the bag
They later asked us to comment on it. As our child was also in the house, they took us to a separate room for questioning. All the procedures ended at 7 pm. My husband has never been involved in any such case. He was repeatedly saying that his wife and children have no role in this. He also said about accepting the punishment if found guilty
However, at 7 am on Thursday, I received a phone call saying that Shojo had committed suicide. How can an accused hang up in an office with all these officials? Wasn’t there anyone to look after him? Normally such cases are rare and it makes me strongly believe that it was definitely not a case of suicide. I am waiting for the postmortem report to learn the truth.
Shojo a driver by profession used to work mostly in Tamil Nadu. They have three children. Palakkad Excise Deputy Commissioner informed that an investigation has been started into the incident.
