CHENNAI: The court said permission should be given to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's road show in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu. The Madras High Court has asked the Tamil Nadu government for this. The police had denied permission for the road show citing security concerns. BJP had approached the court following this.

Prime Minister's Coimbatore visit and road show is on March 18. The road show was initially denied permission citing security concerns, Coimbatore's communal history and inconvenience to the public and students. The roadshow is part of Prime Minister Modi's tour of South India ahead of the Lok Sabha elections.

The BJP has sought permission to hold a 3.6 km roadshow in the city. The PM's roadshow ends at RS Puram, one of the sites of the 1998 serial blasts. Moreover, no political parties or groups have been permitted to hold road shows because of the communally sensitive nature of Coimbatore.

Officials had pointed out that public examinations were scheduled on March 18 and 19 and that there were multiple schools on the proposed route for the roadshow.
