KOLENCHERY: Singer Jassie Gift walked off the stage in protest after the principal grabbed the mic while Jassie was singing at St. Peter's College day celebration.
The Principal Dr Binuja Joseph grabbed the mic when Jassie Gift who came to inaugurate the college day celebration on Thursday morning was singing at the end of the function. The principal announced that anyone but Jassie Gift was forbidden from singing on stage. Although Jassie informed the principal that all they did was sing the chorus, the principal did not budge. The principal, who asked for the person who sang with Jassie to be removed, said that she gave permission because she thought that only Jassie Gift would be singing. Following this, Jassie Gift left the stage in protest.
Principal blockaded
The students blockaded the principal in protest against the incident. The blockade ended when the Puthenkurish police arrived and decided that the students' programs would be held under the responsibility of the college. The students alleged that the management is acting in an anti-democratic manner and that the college union is not even holding elections in the guise of a court order.
The unusual incident at Kolenchery College caused deep distress. Grabbing the mic during the song is extremely insulting to the artiste.
