THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Muslim League with disagreement in the announcement that the polls would be held on Friday. Muslim League General Secretary PMA Salam said that the move would cause inconvenience to voters, officials assigned to election duty and polling agents. He said that the matter will be brought to the attention of the Election Commission immediately. Friday is Juma day when Muslims gather in mosques. Choosing this day for polling in Kerala and Tamil Nadu will create difficulties. PMA Salam demanded that the Election Commission should be ready to reconsider the matter.

The election dates were announced by Chief Election Commissioner Rajeev Kumar in a press conference held at Nirvachan Sadan in Delhi today at around 3 pm. The election will be held in seven phases. First phase on April 19. Counting of votes will be held on June 4. The second phase will be held on April 26. Voting in Kerala will happen in the second phase in a single phase. By-elections are to be held in 26 states. The Election Commission has clarified that this will be held during the parliamentary elections itself.
