sreekumaran-thampi

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The small auditorium at Sree Chitra Poor Home. Limited facilities. Background singers and children showering love by singing immortal songs that Malayalees will never forget. Sreekumaran Thampi, the lyricist, director and screenwriter who saw a thousand full moons, witnessed everything.

Sreekumaran Thampi, who celebrated his Sathabhishekam without any fanfare, did not hide his heart-wrenching pain even during the joyous occasion. 'I am solely responsible for all the inconvenience caused to those who have come here. It is my decision that this event should be organized here in this facility.' Hearing the reason, some people in the audience wept.

"My son was my life. When my son died, so did I. The festivities went away with him. I was just giving in to the insistence of those who love me for now. I wanted to spend this day with the children who got nobody. No one is orphaned when there is a birth mother called the earth and a foster mother called the sky," he said.

Minister V Sivankutty inaugurated the program jointly organized by Sreekumaran Thampi Foundation and Film Academy. Foundation President Jayasekaran Nair presided.
ISRO Chairman Dr S Somanath distributed the NIMS Education Scholarship to Maya and Aditya, students of the Poor Home. Jyothis Central School distributed clothes to the children of the home.

The guests left after having a birthday sadya with Sreekumaran Thampi. Thiruvananthapuram Parliament candidates Panniyan Ravindran, Shashi Tharoor, Rajeev Chandrasekhar, former Speaker M Vijayakumar, Film Academy Secretary C Ajoy, producer G Sureshkumar, Dinesh Panicker, Kalliyoor Shashi, Jyotish Chandran, Adv Vijayalayam Madhu and others were also present.
