THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Along with heat of the election campaign , the summer heat is also soaring, troubling political workers and people from all walks of life. Weather experts are predicting that the temperature will cross 40 degrees Celsius in April if it continues at this level.

Palakkad and Punalur recorded the highest temperatures in the state.

However, in recent years, extreme heat was recorded all districts. Temperatures are also high in Kottayam, Alappuzha, Thrissur, Kannur and Kozhikode districts. The number of days with high temperatures also increased. Since the beginning of March, the temperature in Punalur has been around 37 to 39 degrees. The situation in Palakkad is the same. The condition of other districts is proportional to this. In March, the temperature usually rises to 36 to 37 degrees. On March 20, the temperature will rise to 39 degrees in Palakkad and Kollam districts. It will reach 37 degrees in Alappuzha, Pathanamthitta and Kottayam districts. The temperature will rise up to 36 degrees in Thrissur and Kozhikode districts.

93% less rainfall

1.4 mm rainfall was recorded in the state till yesterday. The state used to receive an average rainfall of 18.1 mm. There was no rain in Kannur, Kasaragod, Malappuram and Wayanad. Ernakulam, Pathanamthitta and Thiruvananthapuram districts received light rain. The weather forecast is that there will be summer rain in the last week of March and after that there will be rain in the second week of April.

Reason for high temperatures

The El Nino phenomenon is the reason for extreme heat. El NiƱo is a phenomenon that causes unusual warming of the sea surface in the equatorial Pacific Ocean. When it is active, the ambient temperature will increase. An increase in atmospheric humidity in proportion to the rise in temperature can make it feel warmer than it actually is.

Drink plenty of fresh water even if you are not thirsty. Use an umbrella or a hat to protect yourself from the sun. Wear light colored clothing. Do not leave children in a vehicle parked in the sun. Ensure indoor air circulation. Alcohol and caffeinated beverages should be avoided.
