THRISSUR: BJP demands ban on LDF candidate VS Sunil Kumar from contesting Lok Sabha elections. The complaint is that Sunil Kumar has misused the image of the Election Commission's brand ambassador and therefore he should be barred from contesting.
NDA District Coordinator Advocate Ravikumar Uppath has given the complaint to the District Collector. The complaint states that Tovino's image has been misused and this is a violation of the election rules.
Last day, Sunil Kumar shared a picture with actor Tovino Thomas on social media. However, the actor clarified that he is an ambassador of the Election Commission and that the picture with him is being used for campaigning without his knowledge. After this, Sunil Kumar withdrew the pictures.
VS Sunil Kumar responded that the photo with Tovino was taken at the shooting location of Thrissur Poonkunnam and he did not know that Tovino was the Election Commission's brand ambassador. He also stated that he withdrew the photo as soon as he came to know about it.
Even though the candidate himself withdrew the picture and gave an explanation, the NDA went ahead with the complaint.
The note shared by Tovino Thomas:
My best wishes to all the Loksabha candidates.
I wish to hereby convey that I'm the ambassador for Kerala for the Election Commission's SVEEP (Systematic Voter's Education and Electoral Participation) program, and so it is against the law to use my photo or a photo including me for any kind of election campaigning .
In case somebody is using it, I wish to clarify that it is without my knowledge or consent.
Wishing everyone a fair election experience.
