THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: With the Siddharthan death case of Pookode University handed over to CBI, the state police have found it timely to wriggle out from the investigation, leaving the case astray. Police say that 20 people have been arrested in the incident and the last two arrests were made on March 9th, the day when CBI was roped in to investigate the case. Since then, the state police have been lethargic, not even making any initiative to move ahead with the case until the CBI officially takes over the investigation.

Siddharthan’s relatives levelled allegation that the police are not following due procedure to safeguard evidence until CBI takes charge. T Jayaprakash, father of Siddharthan expressed concern about the police not yet questioning the student who handled Siddharthan’s mobile phone while he was subjected to inhumane torture. The inept work of the police has made the family realise the sufferings they would have had to witness if the case had not been taken up by the CBI.

Siddharthan was found dead in the washroom of the hostel on February 18. The post-mortem report says that he suffered inhumane torture before death. The anti-ragging squad of the college found that the SFI leaders were directly involved in the death.

Albeit the allegations, Vythiri police said that the investigation is ongoing.
