THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: In a painful incident, one student lost his life after being tragically hit by a stone that came rolling from a tipper lorry moving towards Vizhinjam. Ananthu, a native of Mukkola is the deceased. He was a fourth-year BDS student at Nims College.
The incident took place at Mullumukku in Manalivila on the Mukkola-Balaramapuram road at around 8 am on Tuesday. Ananthu was travelling on a scooter to his college. The lorry coming from the opposite direction was overloaded with gravel. While moving through the uneven roads in the area, some stones from the lorry jumped out from the lorry and landed on the youngster before falling on the handle of the scooter. With this, the scooter went out of control and crashed into the nearby wall.
Ananthu's helmet was completely broken. The bones of his chest were broken and the internal organs, including the heart and liver, were seriously injured. The youth, who lay in a pool of blood, was rushed to NIMS hospital in a 108 ambulance by the locals. He died in the afternoon while on the ventilator. Following the incident, the port gate was blockaded under the leadership of various political parties. Vizhinjam police have registered a case of involuntary manslaughter against the tipper driver in the incident. The lorry was heading towards the Vizhinjam port for construction work.
The funeral will take place after Ananthu's father Ajikumar arrives from abroad on Wednesday. Ananthu has a sister: Aruna B. Ajikumar, an M.Sc student.
