Just hours after floating the green dress code for delivery boys, Zomato dropped it after facing heavy backlash from social media. On Tuesday, Zomato CEO Deepinder Goyal rolled out new plans for A 'pure veg fleet' on the website and also tasked delivery boys to adopt green colour for the purpose. However, concerns were raised by social media users and shareholders about the chances of on-ground segregation for delivery boys wearing red colour. It presaged chances of some residential associations or societies preventing entry for red/ green colour uniform delivery boys during any special religious function.
Amidst the growing tension, CEO Deepinder Goyal rescinded his decision thus making all delivery boys wear red irrespective of the food choices. However, Goyal said that the pure veg fleet option will stay, so as to enhance the experience of the large vegetarian customer base in India. Thus it has been confirmed that all delivery boys whether be it in the regular fleet or the Pure veg fleet will have to wear the red color uniform.
Goyal also confirmed that the pure veg fleet was not anything intended to fawn a certain section or done for any political preference. On Tuesday, social media erupted in a storm after Zomato decided to introduce the green colour code for pure veg fleet, which many doubted would segregate people on a religious basis.
