NEW DELHI: It has been reported that India will experience extreme heat from April to June this year. According to the India Meteorological Department, the central and western peninsular parts of the country are expected to face the worst impact of the summer heat.

"Most parts of the country are likely to experience above-normal maximum temperatures during the April-June period. Temperatures will rise the most in the central and western peninsular India," IMD Director General Mrutyunjay Mohapatra said.

Meanwhile, the western Himalayan region, northeastern states, and north Odisha are likely to experience normal or below-normal temperatures. At least 10-20 days of heatwave are expected in various parts of the country against a normal of 4 to 8 days.

The IMD also warned that central India, adjoining areas of the Northern plains and Southern India are likely to experience high temperatures in April. States such as Gujarat, Maharashtra, north Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, north Chhattisgarh and Andhra Pradesh are likely to experience extreme heat in April.
