KOLLAM: A man who accidentally fell into a roadside trench that was four feet deep, had to spend the night there without anyone noticing the incident. Sugunan(60) of Vrindavan house in Chavara was riding his bicycle when a bike rider collided with him, pushing him into the trench.
The accident took place after ten o'clock on Saturday night near Neendakara Foundation Hospital, Kollam. The injured Sugunan said that he lost his balance after hitting the bike and ended up falling into the trench. Suganan even tried his best to climb out from the trench but the injury suffered doused all efforts. He then resorted to just one option of screaming and calling the attention of commuters. However, no one heard the cry despite Sugunan screaming his heart out.
The practice of not using a cell phone also added to the worry as Suganan was left with no option but to lie down and endure the pain. Being an isolated area with few streetlights, it was hard for anyone to notice. However, Sugunan admits to grabbing the attention of some passersby who came to look at him and walked away in cruel disregard.
By morning, as the sun gleamed over the sky, people noticed a senile man inside the pothole with injuries. An ambulance arrived after some time and he was shifted to Foundation hospital
Then he was transferred to the district hospital and from there to a private hospital. Sugunan, a painting worker, was on his way home from Sakthikulangara when the accident occurred.
