THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: As a much-needed solace from the harsh summer that was straining out the sweat of people, the Indian meteorological department has predicted light summer rains in the state for the next five days. On Saturday, there is a chance of light rain in seven districts from Thiruvananthapuram to Idukki.

On Sunday and Monday, there is a rain warning in the districts except Palakkad, Malappuram, Kannur and Kasaragod. According to the Meteorological Department, there is a possibility of widespread light rain in the state on the coming Tuesday.

According to the IMD, the maximum temperature in Kollam and Palakkad districts will rise to 40 degrees and the maximum temperature in Thrissur district will rise to 38 degrees from Friday to Tuesday.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Research Center has informed about the possibility of high waves of 0.5 to 1.2 meters along the Kerala coast till 11:30 on Saturday night.
