THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Warning that heat will increase in Kerala in the coming days. The temperature will increase by two to four degrees till April 12. Due to this, IMD has announced a yellow alert in various districts.
The central weather forecast is that the temperature may rise up to 41 degrees in Palakkad district, 39 degrees in Kollam district, 38 degrees in Thrissur, Kozhikode, Pathanamthitta and Kottayam districts, 37 degrees in Kannur, Ernakulam and Alappuzha districts and 36 degrees in Thiruvananthapuram, Malappuram and Kasaragod districts. Due to high temperatures and humid air, these districts may experience hot and humid weather except in hilly areas.
The State Disaster Management Authority has advised the public to follow the guidelines as the high heat can lead to many serious health problems such as sunstroke, sunburn and dehydration. The main caveat is to avoid direct sun exposure under any circumstances. It is also advised to drink water even if you are not thirsty.
Meanwhile, the summer rains have been weak, though four districts in the state were forecast to receive rain from Sunday night. A significant drop in available rainfall has been recorded compared to previous years.
