THRISSUR: Ernakulam Sivakumar, accompanied by Kuttur Neithalakavilamma, opened the southern gopuram of Vadakkunnathan and announced the commencement of Thrissur Pooram. The event, attended by thousands despite the scorching sun, is now a vibrant celebration filled with fairs and spectacular fireworks.

At 7 a.m., the Pooram will begin with the arrival of Kanimangalam Shasta at Vadakkunnatha Sannidhi, accompanied by Panchavadya and Pandi Melam.

At 11:30 a.m., Panchavadyam will take place at Thiruvambadi Mutt under the guidance of Kongad Madhu. The procession will commence at Paramekkau at 12:15 p.m., with 15 elephants accompanied by Pandi Melam.

At 2 p.m., the renowned Ilanjithara Melam, featuring around 250 artists, will be held at Ilanji chuvad in Vadakkunnathan, led by Aniyan Marar. Paramekkav Bhagavathy will be positioned facing the south tower, beside the king's statue in front of the corporation building. By then, Thiruvambadi procession will arrive in front of Bhagavathy Gopuram.

At 6 p.m., the meeting of Bhagawathi and the kudamattam will be witnessed by a multitude of spectators. Bhagawathi will return after the kudamattam at 7:30 p.m. Fireworks will be from three to five in the morning.

By 1 p.m., Pakalpuram will end at Sreemulasthanam. Approximately 100 elephants have undergone fitness tests for the event.
