THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The authorities have clarified that the claim suggesting Kerala's own telecommunication network system KFON has not reached its target is baseless. It's generating a profit of 150 crores per year.
Kephone has leased 4300 km of cable to meet its own demand in the fiber network established in the state. It currently generates an income of 5 crores. Efforts to expand to 10,000 km are underway, with discussions ongoing with various companies to achieve this goal. The company aims to achieve an annual revenue of Rs 50 crores.
An additional annual revenue of Rs 100 crores is targeted through private telecommunication circuits between two or more locations. Once this is completed, the revenue target of 150 crores will be achieved. Many requests have been received for direct internet access from the service provider at fixed bandwidth. As a result, 34 connections have been provided.
6000 commercial connections have been established through this effort, with plans to provide an additional 5000 connections underway. Officials noted that the demand for Internet tariffs through KFON is relatively low.
KPhone is scheduled to provide internet connectivity to 30,438 government offices in the state. KFON officials stated that 28,634 offices have been connected with 21,214 offices currently operational.
Within a year of KFON's inauguration, 5734 families were provided with free internet connections. Efforts are underway to expand this to 14,000 families facilitated by Kerala Vision.
