NEW DELHI: A hotel owner was briefly detained by the Delhi Police following complaints of biryani being sold in disposable plates with Lord Ram's picture. The incident took place at a hotel in Jahangirpuri in North West Delhi.
Based on the complaint received over the telephone, the Delhi Police reached the hotel and conducted an inspection. The owner was then questioned. The police then found that he was unaware of the picture as the plates were purchased in bulk. After this, he was released without registering any formal case.
The hotel owner bought a thousand plates from a factory and only some of them had the image of Lord Ram.
"He told us that he was not aware about the Lord Ram's picture on the plates, which was also verified by the factory owners," a police officer said.
"When a team reached the spot, a few persons were found protesting outside the shop. They were pacified after the assurance of a proper investigation into the matter," the officer added.
The paper used to make the plates was from the cover of a book named Ramayana Unravelled.
