KOZHIKODE: The survivor in the Medical College ICU assault case has temporarily ended her strike after the IG sought an explanation from the commissioner regarding the situation that led to the protest. The survivor began her protest in front of the Kozhikode City Police Commissioner's office last Thursday demanding a copy of the investigation report on the complaint against the doctor who recorded her statement.
On the instructions of the chief minister's office, the North Region IG started an investigation into the incident. Earlier, the chief minister's office had intervened in the complaint of the survivor. The North Region IG has been directed to investigate the complaint and submit a report within 15 days. The survivor's struggle and non-handover of inquiry report should be investigated. The statement of the complainant should be recorded. It has also been directed to give a reply to the complainant regarding the action taken. After this, the IG sought an explanation from the commissioner, following which the strike was ended.
The survivor had filed a complaint with the police alleging that many of the things she had said were not accurately recorded by Dr KV Preetha, scientific evidence was not collected and there is an attempt to sabotage the case.
The investigation report given by Medical College ACP K Sudarshan to the commissioner was that there was no basis in the complaint. The strike started after a copy of this was requested under the Right to Information Act but was not made available. In July 2023, the survivor approached the Information Commissioner requesting a copy of the investigation report, but the police was not ready to provide the report.
