THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: District Collectors have announced prohibitory orders in four districts as part of the Lok Sabha elections. Prohibitory orders have been announced in Thiruvananthapuram, Pathanamthitta, Thrissur and Kasaragod districts.
The curfew has been imposed in Thiruvananthapuram, Thrissur and Kasaragod districts from 6 pm today after the Kotikalasham(campaign finale). In Pathanamthitta, the prohibitory order is from 6 pm tomorrow. Collectors have suggested that there should be no public meetings till Saturday. The orders also say that silent campaigns can be conducted but no more than five people should gather.
At the same time, the campaign finale will end at six o'clock tonight. Candidates and parties will then quietly turn to final tactics. All three fronts are holding campaign finales in district headquarters and other important centres. The three groups have brought maximum number of workers including women. Bands and fireworks added excitement to the closing moments. A large number of police have been deployed to prevent the excitement from going too far.
The candidates completed their rounds before noon through all the assembly constituencies that are part of the Lok Sabha constituencies. Eminent leaders and national leaders were also present in the constituencies where a pride fight is taking place. The next effort will be to visit maximum number of voters at their homes and confirm their votes. A system will be set up to reach those who are not in the place and those who need help to go to vote. There will be proper monitoring to prevent the purchasing of votes.
The election announcement came on March 16. Kerala Congress (M), which is part of the Left Front, was the first party to announce their candidate this time. They announced the candidature of Thomas Chazhikadan on February 12. CPI announced its candidates on February 26 and CPM on February 27. BJP announced the first round of candidates on March 1. Due to the confusion, the announcement of the Congress candidate was delayed till March 8. Kerala will go to polls on April 26.
