THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The decision implemented on the initiative of Transport Minister KB Ganeshkumar has reportedly yielded positive results. According to reports, accidents involving KSRTC buses have reduced by 25 per cent after inspections were launched across the state to find out the KSRTC drivers who operate buses after getting drunk. Breathalyzer tests were started from April 4 to find out whether conductors and drivers get drunk while on duty. Squads are also conducting inspections to find out if drivers get drunk in between trips.

Drivers are required to take a breathalyzer test before reporting for duty. The decision was based on complaints that many of the KSRTC drivers were coming to work after getting drunk. The decision was taken to reduce the road accidents involving KSRTC buses. The finding that drinking while on duty was the main reason behind the misbehaviour of KSRTC employees towards passengers also prompted the authorities to implement the decision.
