NEW DELHI: A survey conducted by the international news agency Reuters has warned of an impending disaster for India. According to the survey, youth unemployment poses the most significant challenge to the country.

India has reportedly struggled to generate sufficient employment opportunities for its youth, as highlighted in the survey. This issue is anticipated to be the primary concern for the incoming government following the elections.

The survey, conducted from April 16 to 23, involved 26 economists. Of these, 15 expressed concerns about a rise in unemployment, eight suggested an increase in rural consumption, two predicted inflation, and one foresaw a rise in hunger.

According to the survey, the Modi government, which has been in power for the past decade, has failed to create significant new job opportunities.

While the unemployment rate decreased to 3.2 per cent in 2022-23 from 3.4 per cent in 2013-14, as reported by the Labor Force Periodical, the Center for Monitoring Indian Economy recorded a 7.6% unemployment rate in March. The survey underscores the detrimental impact of the lack of job creation on India's progress.

BJP has pledged to boost employment opportunities if elected for a third term.
