THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: With all three fronts holding high hopes, 2.77 crore voters in the state will exercise their voting rights in 20 parliamentary constituencies today. Polling will be held from 7 am to 6 pm. The state had recorded a voter turnout of 77.67 per cent in the last election.
89 seats in 13 states will go to poll tomorrow as part of the second phase of the Lok Sabha elections. The counting of votes will be done on June 4 after the completion of all seven phases.
The distribution of voting machines was completed yesterday. 25,177 booths and 54 sub-booths have been set up across the state.
Congress national leaders Rahul Gandhi, Shashi Tharoor, KC Venugopal, Union Ministers V. Muraleedharan, Rajeev Chandrasekhar, film stars Suresh Gopi, Mukesh, Krishnakumar, state minister K. Radhakrishnan, MLAs Shafi Parambil, V Joy, KK Shailaja, KPCC president K Sudhakaran, BJP state president K Surendran and BDJS president Thushar Vellappally are seeking popular vote today. CPM leaders Elamaram Kareem, Thomas Isaac, MV Jayarajan, CPI leaders Panniyan Raveendran, VS Sunilkumar, Congress leaders K Muraleedharan, Kodikkunnil Suresh, RSP leader NK Premachandran, Muslim League leader ET Muhammad Basheer and others are also in the fray.
Strict monitoring in 1903 booths
There will be strict monitoring in 1903 booths, including 1161 problematic booths and 742 extremely problematic booths, in the state. There are about fifty observers. There will be live webcasting in 22832 booths in the state including all booths in Thiruvananthapuram, Thrissur, Palakkad, Kozhikode, Malappuram, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod districts.
