THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Open University finds itself embroiled in controversy as allegations surface regarding the illegal continuation of Dr SV Sudhir in his role as Pro Vice-Chancellor (PVC). Despite the resignation of Vice-Chancellor PM Mubarak Pasha, Dr Sudhir has continued to hold office, contrary to legal stipulations.
Under scrutiny are the UGC Rules of 2018, which dictate that the tenure of PVCs expires concurrently with that of VCs. This discrepancy raises concerns about adherence to established regulations within the university administration.
This issue echoes a similar situation at the Technical University, where despite the dismissal of VC Dr MS Rajashree, PVC Dr Ayub remained in office until instructed otherwise by the Raj Bhavan.
The Save University Campaign Committee has filed a formal complaint with the Governor, demanding Dr Sudhir's immediate removal. Moreover, there are allegations that the initial appointments of both VC and PVC at the university were made by the government, potentially violating UGC rules.
As the situation unfolds, stakeholders await a response from the authorities to address these violations and restore transparency and accountability within the Open University's leadership.
