Fahad Fazil starrer ‘Avesham’ has eclipsed the initial success of ‘Varshangalkku Shesham’, and now, one Tamil Nadu film producer took his turn to hammer another nail into the movie’s dismal run. Producer G. Dhananjayan in an interview opened up about the candour conversation he had with Producer Visakh Subramaniam, where it is said that the latter demanded a whopping Rs 15 crore for the theatrical rights of the Malayalam movie.

With the unprecedented wave created by Manjummel Boys in Tamil Nadu, the producers from the neighbouring states are keeping a close eye on the Malayalam projects which they feel could fetch them a fortune. However, the ‘Manjummel Boys’ formula failed to yield the results for ‘Varshangalkku Shesham’.

‘I called the producer of ‘Varshangalkku Shesham’, as I liked the trailer very much. I hoped for a reasonable price but he demanded Rs 15 crore and said the movie to be better than Manjummel Boys. It was an attempt to convince me that the movie would bring more profits than what ‘Boys’ did.

I was taken aback by the demand and even asked Visakh whether he mentioned Rs 1.5 crore or Rs 15 crore. Later I wished him luck and hung up the phone. Even Blockbuster 'Premalu' grossed just Rs 5 crore in Tamil Nadu. Manjummel Boys was a different case. It was later learned that 'Varshangalkku Shesham’ got distributed in Tamil Nadu without any prior deal and the movie did not even collect Rs 50 lakhs” said Dhananjayan.
