KOZHIKODE: Car in which a family was travelling in to go for voting caught fire and was completely destroyed. The incident took place at Pampbumkavu in Thiruvambady Koodaranji Kakkadampoyil, Kozhikode. The car in which Peedikappara native Thenaruvi John, his wife and his sister were travelling in was completely burnt down today afternoon.
The family was on their way to vote at booth 94 in Kakkadampoyil when they saw smoke billowing from the front of the car. The car was stopped immediately and the travellers got out of the car. In no time, the car was completely engulfed in flames and was destroyed. The fire brigade reached the spot from Mukkam and extinguished the fire.
An old man had died today in an accident while he was going to vote. The deceased has been identified as Cherumangalam native Saiduhaji (70). The accident took place at around 9.30 am while Saiduhaji was on his way to the polling booth in BEM LP School. A truck hit Saiduhaji's scooter from behind while it was trying to make room for an ambulance. Saiduhaji then fell on the road and was run over by the truck. Despite being taken to a nearby private hospital and thereafter to Kottakkal Hospital, his life could not be saved.
The body will be handed over to the relatives after conducting a post-mortem at the Tirurangadi Taluk Hospital. Saiduhaji is survived by his wife Rasiya, children Babumon, Arshad, Shefineeth, Abdul Gafoor, Haseena and Shereena.
