No war ever regains the news importance it had when it started. At the same time, death, destruction, famine and other damage will continue in the battlegrounds. The Russian occupation of Ukraine has approached eight hundred days. The Israel-Hamas war, which broke out in a surprise attack by Hamas fighters against Israel on October 7, is approaching seven months! Including the civil wars in Yemen and Sudan, more than a dozen wars or insurgencies continue to escape the attention of world media, continuing to write the history of violence and destruction. The war, which has so far claimed the lives of more than 42,000 Palestinians and more than 1,400 Israelis in Gaza, continues to cast a dark cloud over the West with no possibility of a ceasefire.
America has already made it clear time and time again that it stands with Israel in war. It is the United States that provides financial and weapon support to Israel, which has vowed to continue the attack until no stone is left on top of another stone in Gaza. For the past few days, there has been a roar of a large movement of university students and youths emerging from within the country against this tyranny of America playing the role of world police. The renowned Columbia University in New York is the center of pro-Palestinian and anti-Israel movements in America. Here alone, more than 100 students were arrested within a week. Protests and arrests are ongoing at Emory University and Indiana University in Atlanta.
In the 1970s, we must assume that the way is being prepared for a student movement similar to that which spread during the American invasion of Vietnam. While anti-US slogans from Columbia University, renowned for free thought and speech, are spreading rapidly to other universities like California, Yale and Michigan, pro-Israel student groups are also present. Speaker of the US House of Representatives, Mike Johnson, who went to Columbia University in support of Jewish students, was shouted down by protesting students. There is a danger that protests from both sides, centered at universities within the country, may lead to violence and student riots at any time due to the ongoing bloodshed in Gaza by Israel with the support of the United States.
At the same time, there is no hope for an end to the war, let alone the possibility of a temporary ceasefire, as Hamas insists that it cannot be defeated without accepting the demand for an independent Palestine, and Israel continues its aggressive plan to expand its offensive into southern Gaza. The Israel-Hamas conflict is now nothing more than a death toll that the media routinely publishes as the war progresses each month. No war has left anything but terror and loss anywhere in the world. Nothing echoes over a war but the screams of helpless children and women. Now, a war is not just between two countries. It is not too late to put an end to the trial period of grudge and hatred and bring the dawn of peace to the West Asian region.
