THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Minor incidents of violence occurred in some places during the polling. Police and security personnel intervened and calmed down the situation. There were no large-scale incidents of violence anywhere till 7:30 pm.
In Nedumangad Karipur, Thiruvananthapuram, BJP workers who stopped the BLO-led vote canvassing were attacked. The incident took place when V Muraleedharan, the BJP candidate from Attingal, was visiting the booth.
A clash broke out after the police chased away the workers who camped near the booth in Kovalam Kottapuram. LDF candidate Pannyan Ravindran was also there at the time. LDF workers tried to stop Shashi Tharoor's car at Vizhinjam. The incident happened while he was talking to voters at Harbor School. A scuffle broke out between BJP and CPM workers over the removal of boards erected by the CPM in violation of the distance limit at the booth of Nedumangad Pulippara old age home. Polling was suspended for a long time due to the clash at the Karikakam booth.
Clashes at two places in Alappuzha
An altercation between BJP workers at Valamangalam and CPI workers at Cherthala resulted in a minor clash. An activist had alleged that two local BJP leaders had taken money for party activities. A dispute over the same in front of the booth near Valamangalam Government Hospital at around 1 o'clock resulted in a conflict. In Cherthala, one person was beaten up in an altercation between CPI workers who hailed from Olatala. Prasad, a resident of Olathala, was beaten up. The reason for this is the dispute that some of the party workers allegedly voted for another party.
Candidate assaulted
Malappuram LDF candidate V Vaseef was assaulted by Youth League workers. Youth league activist Jinshad was arrested by the police in the incident which took place in booth number 134 of GHSS Nellikuth school in Manjeri assembly constituency. Vaseef's car was stopped and he was grabbed by his shirt and shoved.
Assault against MLA
Complaint that Muslim League activists tried to assault CPM District Acting Secretary CH Kunhambu MLAs who reached the spot after getting information about attempts to cast fake votes in Cherkala Govt Higher Secondary School, Kasaragod. There are also complaints that media workers were beaten up.
Fake voting: 18 complaints
There were 18 complaints in various districts regarding fake voting. Seven each in Thiruvananthapuram and Pathanamthitta. Two people who tried to double vote in Idukki were stopped by polling officials. In Thiruvananthapuram, there were complaints that two fake votes were held in Kunnukuzhi alone. Complaints were also made in the booths of Manacaud and Pothencode schools. Complaints were raised in Perinthalmanna in Malappuram and Ollur in Thrissur.
