KANNUR: A 14-year-old boy died tragically while playing in a field after a pillar fell on him. The incident took place in Madapeedika Kannur. K P Sriniketh, son of Mahesh-Sunila couple of Achukulangara Road, is the deceased.

The incident happened at around 6 pm on Friday. The swing using ropes which was anchored on the stone pillar suddenly fell on the boy, seriously injuring him. Sriniketh was rushed to the hospital but his life couldn’t be saved. The incident took place when his parents, both teachers, were deputed on election duty.

It was just a few days before that another 14-year-old boy drowned in Vellarada. Abhinav, son of Vijayan and Kala, natives of Kunnathukal, was the deceased. Abhinav went with three of his friends to take a dip at the pond but slipped into the shallow region. The three friends accompanying him didn’t know swimming and it was the locals who did the rescue operation after hearing the children's scream. He was rushed to the hospital but couldn’t be saved.
