CHENNAI: A youngster in one horrific crime, severed his wife’s hand for constantly engaging in video calls with her friends. The appalling incident took place in Gudiyetram in Vellore district of Tamil Nadu. Shekhar, a weaver, cut off his wife Revathi's right hand when she was on a video call. The hand is partially severed and Revathi is currently under treatment. Shekhar surrendered before the police after committing the crime.

According to police: Shekhar doubted his wife having an affair with another man due to her constant video calling with friends. This had led to many quarrels and he warned Revathi to not do video calls again. Paying less heed to the warning, Revathi continued doing video calls in front of her husband. Another quarrel took place which made matters worse.

On the day of the incident, Shekhar saw Revathi calling someone through video and got irked. She continued with the call despite knowing her husband’s displeasure. Shekhar was battered to see this and took his sickle and brutally cut off his wife’s hand. Revathi was taken to the hospital by the neighbours who heard her screams.

Shekhar who fled the scene, soon surrendered at the police station where he confessed to the crime. Albeit the hand not fully detached from the body, Revathi is in critical condition. Revathi was first admitted to Gudiatham Hospital and later shifted to Vellore Medical College Hospital.
