KOZHIKODE: The police have registered a case in the incident where large quantity of clothes was found from the house of a BJP activist on the eve of the Lok Sabha elections. The case is against Kanatt Reghulal of Thiruvambadi Ponnamkayam. The clothes were seized during an inspection conducted by the election squad.
The case is as per the directive of the court on the complaint of flying squad officer Girish Kumar. The case is based on the Representation of People’s Act. The CPM alleged that the clothes were kept to distribute to the voters in Thiruvambadi constituency. Thiruvambadi falls under the Wayanad Lok Sabha constituency.
Around 1500 food kits were seized from the wholesaler in Sultan Bathery on Wednesday night. They were seized while trying to transport them in a jeep. The driver of the jeep told police that he does not know where the food kits were being transported. Essential items including biscuits, tea powder etc. were in the plastic covers. Some kits were found loaded in the jeep and some were kept tied. There is uncertainty about where the kits were to be taken and to whom they were to be distributed.
The CPM came forward blaming the BJP for the incident. The CPM alleged that the BJP brought the kits to distribute at the tribal colonies in Sultan Bathery to influence voters. T Siddique MLA alleged that if contests directly properly, will not get votes and hence BJP is trying to reduce the impact of defeat by giving food kits.
