PALAKKAD: Two people died of sunstroke in the state. Viswanathan, aged 53 of Panthakkal in Mahe, who was undergoing treatment for sunstroke and Lekshmi (90) of Elappully are the two dead. Viswanathan, who collapsed while engaged in work at a well, died at a private hospital in Kannur.
Lekshmi was found lying in the Aliyar Canal last evening. Post mortem report confirmed her death due to sunstroke.
Lekshmi left home last evening for a walk. She did not return even after a long time. A search by her relatives found her lying in the canal. There were injuries on her head and burns on her body. She was taken to the hospital but was declared dead.
Meantime, besides Palakkad, the central meteorological department has issued a heat wave warning for Kollam and Thrissur. The Central Meteorological Department had informed that heatwave conditions will prevail in various areas of Kollam, Thrissur and Palakkad today and tomorrow.
The heat wave warning is based on the extreme heat recorded for consecutive days and the temperature will rise up to 41 degree Celsius in Palakkad and 40 degree Celsius in Kollam and Thrissur in the next few days. Due to high temperature and humid air, these districts are likely to experience hot and humid weather except in hilly areas. Sunstroke and sunburn are more likely to occur.
