THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: After the summer rains received last week, most of the districts of the state is experiencing scorching heat. Even in Idukki and Wayanad districts, which recorded the lowest temperature in Kerala, the temperature is approaching 35 degrees Celsius. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned that the temperature will rise in the coming days in all the districts. The warning also says that there is a possibility of heat wave in three districts.

A heat wave warning has been issued in Kollam, Palakkad and Thrissur districts on Sunday and Monday. This is because the temperature has risen more than usual in the past few days. Palakkad district is likely to record heat up to 41 degrees Celsius and Kollam and Thrissur up to 40 degrees Celsius. During the heat wave, temperatures may rise up to five degrees above normal.

"The temperature will rise to 38 degrees Celsius in Kannur and Kozhikode districts, 37 degrees Celsius in Kasaragod, Malappuram, Ernakulam, Kottayam, Alappuzha and Pathanamthitta districts and 36 degrees Celsius in Thiruvananthapuram. Even in Idukki and Wayanad districts, the temperature will rise up to 34 degrees Celsius," the IMD said.


At the same time, the IMD has warned that there will be light rain in various districts of the state. "There is a possibility of light to moderate rain with thunder and lightning at isolated places in Thiruvananthapuram and Kollam districts in the next three hours and strong winds with a speed of up to 40 kmph. There may be light rain in the districts from Thiruvananthapuram to Idukki today," the IMD added.

As part of the 'kallakkadal' phenomenon, there is a possibility of sea rage due to high waves along the Kerala coast, south Tamil Nadu coast, north Tamil Nadu coast and coastal low-lying areas. Therefore, there is a possibility of 0.5 to 1.5 meter high waves and storm surge along Kerala coast, South Tamil Nadu coast and North Tamil Nadu coast till 11.30 pm, according to the Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services,
