KANNUR: An elderly woman and her daughter were found dead in a house in Kannur. The deceased have been identified as Sunanda V Shenayi (78) and her daughter Deepa V Shenayi (44). Deepa was found lying dead in the dining hall, while Sunanda was found dead in the kitchen. The police said that the dead bodies are believed to be three days old.
It was the Kannur Town police who found the dead bodies when they inspected the house after being informed by the neighbours. The neighbours called the police after noticing that neither Sunanda nor Deepa had come out during the last few days. The neighbours also noticed a bad smell in and around the house in the last few days. The bodies were found swollen and discoloured. Although the door of the house remained open, newspapers of the last three days were found lying outside the house. Only Sunanda and her daughter have been living here for the last ten years. They were not very close to the neighbours. The mother and daughter were last seen outside on April 26 when they went to vote.
After learning about the incident, City Police Commissioner Ajith Kumar, ACP Siby Tom, Special Branch ACP VV Manoj and CI KC Subhash Babu came to the spot. The police are investigating whether there is any mystery in the incident. The dog squad and the forensic department reached the house and conducted an examination. Sunanda's husband is the late Vishwanatha Shenoy, who was a bank employee. Deepa is unmarried. The bodies have been shifted to the Kannur Govt Medical College mortuary in Pariyaram.
