THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Court has sentenced 54-year-old former SI to six years of rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 25,000 for trying to molest a 16-year-old schoolgirl. If he does not pay the fine, he will have to undergo additional imprisonment of three months. The sentence was made by Special POCSO Court Judge R Rekha.
The accused in the case is Sajeev Kumar, a native of Koliakode, Vamanapuram and former SI of the Bomb Detection Wing. He was dismissed from service after becoming an accused. The incident took place on November 26, 2019, at 5 pm. The accused was the president of the residents association where the victim lives. The victim was the president of the children's club. The accused called the girl to his house to give her the list of children who would be performing in the association's annual show. The girl went to the accused's house believing that the accused's daughter would be there.
Seeing that the accused's daughter was not at home, the girl gave the list to the accused and tried to leave immediately, when the accused grabbed the girl by force. The accused came after the girl who ran away and begged her not to divulge the information. The girl went to school the next day and told her teacher about what happened. The teacher informed the police. Special Public Prosecutor RS Vijay Mohan and RY Akhilesh appeared for the prosecution.
