THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Actress Gayathri Arun has questioned the action of not bringing changes to the uniform of school students in the wake of the rising heat in the state. In a social media post, Gayathri stated that even though it's encouraged to dress in loose cotton clothing based on the weather, our kids are still attending schools wearing western-style uniforms.

'A thick overcoat and a tie, a pinafore for girls, socks and shoes on feet. Girls are suffering more by wearing all this during the summer. Loose cotton shirts and skirts or loose cotton t-shirts and pants- this is enough during this hot weather. However, some are claiming that if children wear these clothes, parts that should be covered won't remain covered! This is the stand taken by most schools. Times have changed. Seventy-seven years have passed since we gained independence,' Gayathri wrote.

Meanwhile, the summer heat has intensified in the state, making it almost impossible for people to go out during the daytime. People are struggling to cope with the scorching sun. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has declared a heatwave in Palakkad and Thrissur districts. Thrissur has been recording five degrees above normal temperature for the past five days. The authorities have warned people in the district to exercise special caution.
