THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Central Meteorological Department has announced that rain will be received in various districts in the state as a relief from extreme heat. According to the Indian Meteorological Department, there is a possibility of light to moderate rain with thunder and lightning at isolated places in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam and Idukki districts in the next three hours and strong winds with a speed of up to 40 kmph.
Meanwhile, IMD has issued an orange alert as heat wave is likely to continue in some areas of Palakkad district from today till May 2. IMD has also issued a yellow alert today due to the possibility of heat wave in some areas of Alappuzha, Thrissur and Kozhikode districts.
IMD warns that heatwave conditions will prevail in various areas of Alappuzha, Thrissur, Palakkad and Kozhikode districts today. The heat wave warning has been given based on the extreme heat recorded for consecutive days and the prediction that temperature will rise up to 41 degree Celsius in Palakkad district, 40 degree Celsius in Thrissur district, 39 degree Celsius in Kozhikode district and 38 degree Celsius in Alappuzha district.
