THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The police have registered a case in the incident where the locals took the police hostage and freed the accused. The incident took place in Puthucurichy near Kadinamkulam, Thiruvananthapuram. The Kadinamkulam police reached the spot last night after learning that there was a clash between two gangs in the area. After the two brothers who were present at the place were taken into custody by the police, locals including women intervened and freed them.
Two cases have been registered including assault and obstruction of duty. Nabin and Kaif, accused in an assault case, who were freed after taking the police hostage, have been arrested.
Only three policemen reached the spot at the time of the incident. Later, as the protest got stronger, the police had to release the arrested accused after removing their handcuffs. Knowing that a protest was going on at the place, a large police team led by Attingal DySP reached the spot, but they too could not arrest the accused. The police said that the accused in the clash are accused in several criminal cases.
