THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Addressing the media at a press conference here, DYFI All India Secretary AA Rahim on Thursday said that he was the first to intervene on behalf of Mayor Arya Rajendran in the issue involving a KSRTC driver, adding that he knows the mayor's mental trauma.
"If anyone is under the illusion that they can attack women with red flags, they should put it to rest. Don't think that we'll go home if such attacks are made. Youth Congress and Congress are behind this. It 's better they call back the cybergoons they let loose. We will deal with all this politically," Rahim said.
"What did the mayor do wrong? I intervened in the matter in the first hour of this incident. I spoke to Arya. I know her mental trauma. I was told about the derogatory signs she had to deal with. Arya has been attacked ever since she was elected and became mayor at a young age. There is a definite purpose behind it. The goal is to stop such a brand. The left has the ability to understand all that. No one should think that Mayor Arya will stop working because of this. In this regard, DYFI will proceed democratically and legally," he added.
"No one should be under the conception that our beloved comrades will be left alone. The organization will stand united against this wrong doing. Sachin Dev MLA did not ask the passengers to deboard the buses but boarded the bus to go to the depot after taking ticket," he added.
The police registered a case on the complaint of Mayor Arya Rajendran that she was being cyber-attacked after an argument with the KSRTC driver. The police have registered two cases on the mayor's complaint that she was sexually harassed through social media and want to put an end to this. The police will also investigate the complaint lodged by KSRTC driver Yadu with the commissioner. The Cantonment Police is tasked with this investigation.
If there is no action on the complaints made to the Police Commissioner and the Transport Commissioner, the KSRTC will approach the court. Although a case can be filed for stopping the KSRTC bus and breaking the traffic rules by stopping the car on the zebra line, the police have decided to investigate the driver's allegation along with the current case. Driver Yadu's statement will be recorded.
The police say that the mayor and the MLA stopped the driver, who was driving dangerously and made obscene gestures later. Opposition labour and youth organizations have come forward in support of Yadu.
KPCC secretary CR Pranakumar also filed a complaint with the Human Rights Commission against the mayor and the MLA. KSU has also filed a complaint with the DGP and the Transport Commissioner demanding that a case be filed against the mayor.
The mayor was of the position that the bus was not stopped. The Mayor told the media that when the bus was stopped at the red signal, he only approached the bus and questioned the driver. However, this argument fell apart when the CCTV footage of the roadside dispute surfaced.
Yadu filed a counter-petition after the mayor filed a complaint. As the driver was taken into custody, the police say that there is no need to file a case for 'obstruction of duty'.
Youth Congress and KSRTC employees' organization TDF came forward against the unilateral stand of the police and KSRTC. Youth Congress staged a protest in front of the Corporation office and TDF in front KSRTC chief office.
